14 Day Prayer Challenge For Marriage
1 Corinthians 13 4:7 is one of my absolute favorite pieces of scripture. The day I was asked to marry the love of my life it became more real for me. It seems effortless to be patient towards friends or strangers as well as kind, or even slow to anger. Once I was planning to be married and now almost two years in, it’s not straightforward at all. It is something I have to work at every day. I’m going to pray through scripture for my marriage for 14 days, and I hope you will join me.
I’m going to break down 1 Corinthians 13 4:7 over 14 days. Let’s focus on each key point throughout this scripture and pray that we conduct ourselves in our marriage with this Christ-like way of loving our spouse.
Love Is Patient
Dear Heavenly Father, Gosh, it seems so easy to lose patience with my spouse. The quirky little things that get on my nerves, the wet towels on the floor, the lack of gentleness and love I desire, and just not meeting my expectations I have internally placed for our marriage to experience joy, peace, and happiness. Lord, forgive me for not seeking these things from you. Scripture says that the presence of patience is the presence of the spirit. Galatians 5:22 But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, and faithfulness. Fill me with the Holy Spirit and help me to love with a patient kind of love. Strengthen me and encourage me not to give up on my spouse. My patience and faithfulness are exactly what my spouse needs from me while You, Lord, are working great things. Let me keep my faith and hope in You while you work in my heart to be a more patient wife/husband. Lord, I pray that I am more aware of instilling patience in my marriage and that I may glorify You as I model a patient love. It’s in Jesus name I pray, Amen.
Today I challenge you to practice loving with a patient love towards your spouse and to memorize each of these scriptures to aid in a lifelong love that is overflowing with patience.
Romans 12:12 Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer.
Galatians 6:9 And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap if we do not give up.
Ephesians 4:2 With all humility and gentleness, with patience, bearing with one another in love.
